First Workshop on Solar Cell Simulation
Primer Taller de Modelación de Celdas Solares
Instructor:
Dr. Maykel Courel Piedrahita: maykel.courel@academicos.udg.mx
Main Goal:
This workshop aims at understanding the main physical mechanisms behind solar cell behavior by SCAPS program. The basic concepts of solar cells will be introduced starting from a traditional p-n junction to multijunction solar cells. After this short curse students will be able to understand results on solar cells processed at laboratories as well as to state strategies for further promotion of solar cell efficiency. The workshop will be in Spanish.
Subject-matter:
First day:
Introduction to physical mechanisms under which a solar cell works. Introduction to solar cell simulation with SCAPS. A glance to J-V and EQE results in a solar cell. Exercises: Modeling solar cells based on Si, CdTe and CIGS.
Second day:
The use of SCAPS for modeling complex structures such as Tandem Solar Cells. Exercises: Optimization of physical properties of materials for the highest solar cell efficiency.
Important:
Students should bring their own computer. SCAPS (Version: SCAPS 3.3.07) should be downloaded from link: (http://users.elis.ugent.be/ELISgroups/solar/projects/scaps/SCAPSinstallatie.html) and installed previous to the first class.
Procedure and indications to install SCAPS:
SCAPS is a one dimensional solar cell simulator program developed at University of Gent, Belgium. It is a free program which can be downloaded from: http://users.elis.ugent.be/ELISgroups/solar/projects/scaps/SCAPSinstalla...
It runson PC under Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7, and occupies about 50 MB of disk space. Please bring with you a PC with Window, in case of either Mac or PC with Linux, you will need to create a virtual PC to install it.
