FUNDAMENTALS OF PLASMONIC RESPONSE

This course, divided in two sessions, is focus in the understanding of the origin of the optical response of metal nanoparticles.  We will start with the definition of surface plasmon (SP); then, we will present optical spectra of spherical metal nanoparticles modeled by Mie Theory. We will do an analysis of the shape-line of the optical spectra as a function of the size; dipolar, quadrupolar and superior order SPs will be identified, among other characteristics.  Later, the main features of the optical response of metal nanoparticles with various morphologies modeled by Discrete Dipole Approximation will be analized. Along the course we will do a comparison between theoretical modeling and experimental results.
